Our campaign is about essential political values. The responsibility of our national, regional and international authorities to look after its citizens and cultures and ensure their freedom to create, freedom to earn a living, freedom to express, freedom to choose.

It is vital for all authorities to prove that they are primarily influenced by the interests of their own citizens and consumers as well as economic operators.

Take participatory democracy for example. Participatory democracy implies meaningful consultation with citizens and economic and social stakeholders. It is enshrined in Article I-47 of the European Constitution as a pillar of a democratic society. Despite the objections from consumers and across the stakeholder associations in music, earlier concerns recognised by the EU were simply swept aside when SonyBMG was simply waved through. At the very time when Europe needs to show its citizens and its stakeholders that the basic political principles Europe stands for actually mean something.

Guaranteeing democracy, self-determination and participation by local cultures and economies is essential. Media concentration also sets particular challenges in terms of freedom of information and open society which simply have to be dealt with to ensure that globalisation does not mean domination and exclusion. All citizens deserve their governments support to be part of the digital revolution.

It is also the responsibility of our governments and public authorities to deliver meaningful policies across the board. Citizens are waking up to rhetoric. The goals of fundamental policies on cultural diversity, small business, social and economic cohesion, competition, entrepreneurship and the role of the creative sector are too important to pass by. Joined-up policies are vital.

It is time to seize the opportunity and deliver.
